Back to DLE Club

What the club keeps

The club keeps a random player id and your recent daily scores on your device. When you play, its server keeps them under that id: your scores and their days, the boards you’re on, and the name and board names you pick. Boards show names and scores, never ids. A result link carries the scores you chose to share. Vercel (hosting) and Neon (the database) handle the requests that make this work.

Signing in with Google is up to you, and only on dleclub.com. Google’s script loads only when the sign-in button is on your screen and you aren’t signed in, to draw Google’s button. The club keeps a one-way hash of your Google account’s id, to know you on another device, and nothing else from Google: no email, no name, no picture. Signing in on a second device adds that device’s scores to yours. “Sign out” makes this device a new player and leaves your account’s scores as they are. Google’s privacy policy covers what Google sees when you sign in.

Playing inside Discord

Opening DLE Club inside Discord links your Discord account to your club scores. The club keeps your Discord id, display name and avatar, and which channel you opened it in, to show that channel’s players and daily progress. It does not read your chat messages.

Discord also asks permission to update your activity status. If you allow it, your profile can show the game you’re playing, such as “Playing Amountle” under DLE Club. Discord’s activity privacy settings control who sees it. You can decline this permission and still play. Playing on the ordinary website does not update your Discord status. Discord’s privacy policy covers Discord’s use of this information.

Analytics

What it countsWhen it runs
Vercel Web AnalyticsPage views, by kind of page (the homepage, the club board, a friends board, a result). No cookies, nothing that tells you apart. For everyone, except with Global Privacy Control or after “No thanks”.
Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft ClarityVisits and taps: shares, links to the games, Ko-fi and Discord, starting or joining a friends board, adding a result. Each keeps its own cookie with a random id, to recognise a return visit. In the EU and EEA, the UK and Switzerland, only after you choose “Allow”. Elsewhere, on unless you say no. Never with Global Privacy Control.

Which side of that line you’re on comes from your device’s time zone; nothing is looked up. If the time zone can’t be read, you’re asked.

Google Analytics and Clarity aren’t set up yet, so for now only Vercel’s page views are counted.

What never goes to them

Your player id, any name, a friends board’s code or name, your scores, pasted share messages, the page’s full address or where you came from. Google’s ad storage, ad personalisation and Google signals are off, and none of this turns ads on.

Google Analytics and Clarity run in a separate, empty frame that’s sent only the events above. Clarity sees that frame, not the club’s pages, so it records no replay of your play. Their requests still show your IP address and browser to Google and Microsoft, as any request does.

Changing your mind

, here and at the foot of every page, says whether analytics is on and lets you choose again. “No thanks” stops it on the page at once, removes the analytics frame and its cookies on dleclub.com, and is kept on this device. It can’t delete what was already sent, or cookies on Google’s or Microsoft’s own sites. Your player id and scores are separate, and stay.
